The pattern for these Picky Pants can be found at Little Turtle Knits and I highly recommend it. This was my first attempt at making a garment that required various techniques and actual shaping. There are several tutorials in the pattern to help you along, but I still relied heavily on knittinghelp.com, which remains my favorite knitting resource.
I did the hat on my own as an experiment after reading general information in several places about how to knit baby hats. I only had to start over once, so that was exciting! I will post the pattern after I crank out another one and am sure about the specifics. For both projects I used Bernat Softee Baby yarn in Fresh Green.
We have two other close friends who are having girls very soon. Maybe it's time for some pink organic cotton....

Hi Sara! This is Molly from the CTK Mom's Group (I sat by you the first week.) I seriously want to learn how to knit. I want to make those pants for MY baby! They are so cute. I learned a little bit when I was a kid but have forgotten it all now. Did you pick it up from online help or did you go to a class? See you in 2 weeks!
Hi Molly! Of course I remember you. :) I mostly learned from watching the videos on knittinghelp.com but I also took a class at Rebelle in Lexington, which was very helpful. I have taught a few people since then and was thinking about doing a knitting group of sorts through the CTK MOMs. I'm addicted and have piles of patterns for things I want to make. Get a set of needles and some yarn and go for it!
oooo...those pants are awesome!! I've seen them on SouleMama's blog too...really wish I knew how to knit. Those hats would be awesome photo accesories for little newborns. Guess I have a new hobby to pick up...someday...when I find time...
Sara, you did an excellent job on the pants and little hat-super adorable!! And thanks for teaching me how to knit- I really love it. I just made a baby blanket for one of my friends who is expecting in about 5 weeks! I will post pictures on Facebook soon of the blanket and other things I have made so you can see. I heart knitting too!!
