Ultrasound surprise

This morning we had the ever coveted 20-week ultrasound appointment. Of course, there's the excitement of getting to see the baby for the first time and hopefully finding that everything looks good and that the baby is healthy. Then, if one so chooses, there's the extra cool bonus of learning the baby's gender.

Ever since I found out I was pregnant, I sort of hoped for another girl. Not just because it would be a heck of a lot cheaper, but mainly I hoped Addie would experience the same joys I've had in my relationships with my sisters. It wasn't far into this pregnancy before I started to get the feeling that we might be having a boy. Over the last few weeks that feeling intensified and Curt & I were convinced I had a tiny Mr. Clayton growing in my tummy.

Well this morning we were in for a hefty shock as the ultrasound tech announced that it looks like we're having another girl. What!!! While I couldn't be happier, I also couldn't be more surprised. So much for women's intuition! All these weeks I have been trying to imagine how Addie would relate to a new baby brother and how I would decorate the nursery for a boy. In an instant my fantasies have completely shifted.

Now we can look forward to double the trouble of late night giggle sessions, slumber parties, painting finger and toenails, matching sun dresses, tea parties, playing dolls and dressing up like princesses. Oh, and that's only the beginning.

Addie was in the room for the entire thing and when we said to her, "You're going to have a baby sister!" She responded with her head shaking, "No... No, thanks." Awesome. Don't worry, my love. I'm sure eventually you'll come around.

At least Addie didn't say, "Hell NO!"

I’m so excited for you and a little jealous. I can’t believe you are going to have two little girls. There is nothing like having a sister as you well know. I can’t wait to hear the stories of all the things they come up with to do. Cut each other’s hair. Paint nails and the carpet/table. Steal mommy’s good shoes to play in. I love my little boy but still wish for a little girl. Oh well, just have to love the niece more.

Thanks, peeps! I am slowly getting over the shock and am actually starting to daydream about painting the new nursery pink!!!
Really, it's what I wished for all along, we just have to switch our gears a bit.

Dad, if she ever says that, I'm blaming you! :)

Laura, I need to see you--soon!!!

Em, I asked Addie what she wanted to name her little sister last night. She said, "Emie Bip." I said, "Emie Bip Clayton?" She nodded, smiled and said, "Yep!" Emie Bip Clayton it is!

Bah! Emie Bip Clayton has such a lovely ring to it.

I'm holding you to it.

LeTonia, do you know how much I would love it if that actually happened? Maybe you can convince Curt one night over a bottle of bourbon. :)
