What Keeps Me Going

Fridays on this space are dedicated to sharing what keeps me going... A moment, a photo, an event or a memory that stands out against whatever might have gone wrong or felt dark in the last seven days.

In an effort to keep myself from sounding like a broken record, I will try and be brief. This week is the easiest one of all for me so far. What kept me going was the incredible sister time I was blessed with last weekend. While I missed the third piece to our puzzle, in these days of sister separation, I will take what I can get!
Doesn't she look like fun?

Watching Addie with her "Emie" always makes my heart smile. Not just because it means I am getting a break, but because they love each other SO MUCH.

Most of the time, I can't say I understand what they are doing, but I rest in the comfort that I don't need to. Their time is just for them... In their own world.

And of course, what sister time would be complete without a little pretend beauty shop? Em has the best hair ever. Seriously. I love playing with it.

Update: Em & Nathan are officially on their journey--they arrive in Dominica today. Let the adventure begin!!!

I would love it if you joined me in sharing what keeps you going! Leave a comment to let me know you're participating and each week, I will include a list of everyone who is playing along.

**Special thanks to my dear friend, Katie and my ever faithful dad for sharing their thoughts and stories last week. Kisses and hugs...

Sir Isaac Newton kept me going in a weird metaphysical way. Emotional gravity kept me going. The "Up" was seeing my son-in-law receive his formal call to the church he is currently serving as vicar (intern). He will be ordained there this August. The "Down" was the final push to get Nathan and Emily packed up properly and to the airport for their flight to the Republic of Dominica. Thankfully as bittersweet as the week seemed, I count my blessings of family and the gifts God has given my kids (boys included) and their ability to use them to the full.

I had several things to help me along this week. Sleep helped me get through the first part of the week. Knowing that I didn't have to work on Friday was another wonderful thing I could look forward to. A friend told me a hilarious story on Thursday and I continued to have bouts of laughter throughout the day that kept me sane and gave me a boost of energy to power through the day. Finally, I had a massage today and it was so wonderful that when the massage therapist finished with the session I cried a little. Hopefully I can hang on to the relaxed mood I am in today.

what kept me going this week? My family - my parents that stayed up late weighing our luggage; my mother in law that went out of her way to make us several last homecooked meals; my friends that made me smile while I cried. And of course, your sweet words :)

God got us through it all. He has plans for us - obvy :)

This week? No brainer. The blessed opportunity to gather my family around the table and revel in the obvious joy of each in the company of the others. The actual food that I tend to obsess over is a very distant second to the comraderie. That is the true and reliable source of the magic of these precious gatherings. And, like Dennis, I'm quite proprietary arout my girls as well as my guys. I was so grateful for the ability to (mostly) stay in the moment and avoid looking at that invisible countdown clock in the background.

And Em was right on the money. God got us all through it. Our darling girl.

You all make me cry! Jeepers, these hormones are deadly. :)
Thank you for sharing your stories and your hearts this week. It has been a rough one, but filled with so much love as well. I guess you can't get to the sweet without the bitter sometimes. But then again, that's the best kind of chocolate!
lots of love...
